PNLIT & Puttakere: A bond that began 14 years ago!

11 June 2024

It’s 14 years today since we registered our trust PNLIT. We have overcome many difficult situations but the past 18 months or so have been really tough with administrative issues. It was brewing from March 2020, when the High Court prohibited BBMP from entering into agreements with ‘corporate entities’ for lake maintenance. As an abundant precaution, BBMP did not renew their MoUs with ‘citizen groups’ either! We felt let down but for the sake of our lakes, pulled along as well as we could while BBMP waited for a direction from the Court. Four years later, there’s no sign of the situation improving. A few days ago, all of us got together with other ‘lakers’ in the city and, based on our collective grassroots experience of over several years and lakes, drafted an ‘MoU for Citizen Groups’ which BBMP could submit to the court and obtain approval. It’s too early for the outcome. Meanwhile, we’ll wish ourselves strength to sustain our effort.
